“When we show up, we show up loud” — UMB hails Citi Business Olympics partnership

The Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has described its sponsorship of the 2025 Citi Business Olympics as one of its strongest and most impactful partnerships yet, crediting the move to the bank’s core values of promoting healthy competition and fostering teamwork.

The highly anticipated corporate sporting festival took place on Saturday, September 27, at the Eden Heights Sports Complex in Accra, drawing hundreds of professionals from across Ghana’s corporate community.

Head of Corporate Communications at UMB, Edem Knight-Tay, highlighted the scale and visibility of the bank’s involvement.

“You know, let me also say this. Someone actually mentioned to me from your team that they’ve had sponsors, but our participation as sponsors has really been the loudest in the history of the Citi Business Olympics. So we are very excited. When we show up, we show up loud, and we are always in charge. So yes, we’re excited,” she said.

Madam Knight-Tay further reaffirmed UMB’s commitment to possibly partnering with Channel One TV and Citi FM for the 2026 edition, pointing to the immense visibility, networking opportunities, and brand mileage the bank enjoyed from its 2025 participation.

She also praised the Citi Business Olympics as a unique platform that fosters unity, camaraderie, and togetherness within Ghana’s corporate sector.

Strong Performance on the Field

Beyond its sponsorship, UMB also excelled in the competition, clinching medals across several sporting disciplines. The bank secured gold in draughtsilver in men’s tug of war, and silver in men’s swimming, underscoring its commitment not only to supporting the event but also to active participation.

A Festival of Sport and Networking

The 2025 edition featured a vibrant mix of fitness and competition, beginning with a high-energy aerobics session and a health walk, followed by contests in football, chess, arm wrestling, sack races, swimming, board games, and more.

Participating firms took home medals in multiple categories, reinforcing the event’s reputation as more than a sporting festival — but also a platform for corporate networking, visibility, and team building.
