As part of efforts to boost the growth and visibility of Ghana’s Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the prestigious SME Ghana Awards has officially been relaunched, with MTN Ghana as headline sponsor for the 2024 edition.
The awards, which return after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, aim to honour outstanding SMEs and entrepreneurs contributing to innovation, employment, and economic resilience across the country.
The launch took place on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Ghana Shippers Authority, Ridge, with nominations opening the same day and closing on August 15, 2025.
Under the theme “Sustaining Ghana SMEs in a Globally Competitive Market,” this year’s awards mark a renewed commitment to celebrating excellence in entrepreneurship.
The tagline for this year’s event is “Celebrating Ghana’s SMEs.”
Speaking on the sidelines of the launch, Abubakari Sidick Mohammed, Senior Manager for SME Sales at MTN Ghana, reaffirmed the telecom giant’s support for local businesses.
“SMEs are doing a lot for the economy of Ghana and for that matter MTN Ghana is supporting SMEGA to identify these SMEs so that we will be able to support and recognize them to propel their businesses,” he said.
He also highlighted that SMEs must take advantage of MTN Y’ello Biz solution to expand their business connectivity.
The organisers of the awards believe that repositioning the SME narrative is crucial to driving inclusive economic transformation.
Executive Director of SME Grow Africa, Kwesi Ofori Junior in an media interview explained that: ”The relaunch is bringing a much better benefits to SMEs and we are looking to toughen the processes to make sure that we are able to pick the right SMEs , project them and help them grow.”
In her remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, Margaret Ansei encouraged SMEs to embrace digitalization in their quest for growth while assuring of rallying government support for them.
The 2025 SME Ghana Awards will feature 18 competitive categories, including SME Best Overall Award, SME Women Entrepreneur Award, SME Digitalization & Technology Adoption Award, and SME Media Reportage Award, among others.
