A JEALOUS man, who wanted to teach his ex-girlfriend bitter lessons for leaving him by setting her wooden structure home ablaze, has ended up burning scores of houses, rendering about 200 innocent people homeless at Ahodwo in Kumasi.
The suspect, whose identity is still unknown to the paper, was said to have sneaked to Ahodwo under the cover of darkness around 11pm on Wednesday. He then started the fire in his former girlfriend’s wooden house and absconded in order to avoid arrest.
Even though the suspect had planned to burn only his former girlfriend’s house, the fire reportedly travelled at a lightning speed, and it consumed a number of wooden structure homes in the community, thereby rendering about 200 people homeless in the process.
The broken-hearted man, according to eyewitness reports, realising the huge mess that he had caused in the hitherto peaceful community, then took to his heels to prevent an arrest, and he has since not been seen again.
The community members, who were stunned by the incident, then called personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), who rushed to the scene to douse the inferno, which was certainly bent on spreading further to the nearby houses to cause more damage.
Some of the community members, who were directly affected by the inferno, said the suspect had been intimidating and threatening his former girlfriend with death, so the woman decided to leave him for good.
The man, who perhaps couldn’t contain the pain of losing his lover, therefore decided to teach her bitter lesson by burning the lady alive in her wooden structure home last Wednesday. Luckily, the woman was not around when the fire started.
Meanwhile, the Assemblyman for Ahodwo-Nhyiaeso, Richard Boadi aka ‘Opooman’, confirming the weird incident to the paper on phone, said even though the suspect is known for being violent, nobody expected he could start fire to burn his ex-girlfriend’s house.
He disclosed that close to 200 people, including women and children, have become homeless following the extensive damage that the inferno caused to a number of houses in the community, calling for government’s swift support for the victims of the blaze.
Opooman also said the case has been reported to the police in Kumasi, who have since started investigations, adding that, hopefully, the suspect would be apprehended from his hideout to assist the security agents in their investigations.
