The Director
of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development at the Presidency,
Dennis Miracles has called on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to
streamline its operations to avoid inconveniencing users.
Electricity users, in the past five days, have been finding it difficult to
purchase or top up their electricity and, as a result, had to cope with
sleeping in darkness and business owners finding alternative means to power
their activities.
Following complaints from the users, the ECG issued a statement informing the
public of some technical challenges which later turned out to be a system hack.
Dennis Miracles, who was also affected by the ECG problem, advised the
management to draw lessons from this experience.
"This should be a lesson
for ECG. If we calculate the cost of this situation in the last 5 days to the
economy, it's not easy...", he said on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning
show.
He added that "what has happened is very
dangerous, even to our national security. For us to experience a situation
where, in five good days, whatever technical challenge has not been able to be
resolved, is serious".
He admonished the company to rectify its system and ensure these challenges do
not resurface.
"Five days is too much.
People are losing money. People are losing their businesses", he empathized.
