Minister Alan Kyeremanteng has intimated to Parliament that the Komenda Sugar
Factory is currently undergoing major repair works with the projection to
undertake a production test run by the end of July 2022.
Responding to a question about the current state
of the factory in Parliament on Tuesday June 28, he explained that the turbine
for the electricity production has been overhauled and currently under
production test.
“Mr Speaker, the Komenda Sugar Factory us
currently undergoing major retooling and repair works which is about 98 per
cent complete. with the projection to undertake a production test run by the
end of July this year,” he said.
“With respect to civil works, the whole
factory building and ware house has been reroofed to stop leakages and corrosion.
Raw material warehouse as well as the fencing of the entire factory premise are
currently under construction,” he said while giving updates on some of the
works that have been completed regarding the factory.
The Factory, commissioned by former President
John Dramani Mahama before the 2016 election, has been under
lock and key mainly because managers of the factory say there are not enough
raw materials to feed the factory.
However, President Nana Akufo-Addo after
assuming office in January 2017, has given two separate timelines for the
factory to begin operation, yet that has not been actualised.
