A Political Scientist, Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, has indicated that it is likely to take a while for Ghana to deal with the situation of monetization of politics.
In his view, a time is fast approaching where
the people will not be influenced with money but vote based on their
conviction.
He was speaking in relation to the upcoming
national executive elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in an interview
with TV3’s Komla Adom on the mid-day news Friday, June 24.
“It is our hope and prayer that thing will no
longer be part of our political system. In terms of money monetization of
politics we allowed them to cross the line. I hope for a time will that the
citizens will not be influenced by money, they will vote based on their
conscience and issues,” he said.
He added that “It will take a while for us to
do away with monetization.”
The National Elections Committee of the NPP,
chaired by Mr Peter Mac Manu, has approved the aspirants to take part in the
upcoming National Officers’ elections slated for 15th to 17th July 2022 at the
Accra sports stadium.
This was after an extensive discussion with the prospective
candidates and the interrogation of their documents, a statement by the party
on Thursday, June 23.
“Two prospective aspirants for the position of National Women
Organizer and National Youth Organizer, Abena Osei Bonsu and Klinsman
Karikari Mensah Tumfuor respectively have rescinded their decision to contest,”
the statement revealed.
